How to Read a Window & Door Schedule

What contractors, owners and designers should look for before requesting pricing: mark, size, type, glass, finish, DP and notes.

What contractors, owners and designers should look for before requesting pricing: mark, size, type, glass, finish, DP and notes.

The opening mark

Marks like W1, W2, D1 or SGD-3 connect the schedule to floor plans and elevations. Keep those marks intact when requesting pricing so questions can be traced back to the drawings.

Size and configuration

Confirm whether dimensions represent rough opening, frame size or nominal unit size. Note fixed versus operable panels, handing, pocket/corner conditions, transoms and sidelites.

Performance

Look for design pressure, impact designation, energy values, egress, fire/life-safety notes and product approval references.

Selections

Frame finish, glass tint/Low-E, hardware color, threshold and screen requirements should be carried into the quote assumptions.

Use elevations too

The schedule rarely tells the whole story. Elevations and wall sections reveal mulled combinations, structural divisions, pockets, sill recesses and architectural intent.

Project note

Technical guides are educational. Current approvals, engineering, manufacturer documents and the project drawings govern the final product and installation.

Project pricing

Send the project. We’ll help define the system.

Plans, window schedules, elevations, opening lists or even early dimensions are enough to start the conversation.
